Rửa sạch sườn heo rồi chặt thành từng khúc vừa ăn. Khổ qua cắt khúc vừa ăn, bỏ ruột, rửa sạch và để ráo nước. Cho sườn và 1 lít nước vào nồi hầm khoảng 20 phút. Trong quá trình đun, nên vớt bớt bọt để nước hầm trong hơn.
Vớt sườn ra, dùng sườn cây xuyên qua miếng khổ qua đã được cắt khúc. Cho tiếp khổ qua xuyên sườn vào nấu trong nồi nước hầm lúc nãy và nêm bột nêm Knorr Tự nhiên vị gà vừa ăn.
Khi nước sôi bùng, vặn nhỏ lửa, hầm cho đến khi sườn và khổ qua mềm thì tắt bếp. Cho hành lá vào đảo đều và nêm thêm tiêu cùng các gia vị khác.
